Student Greening Program: Services

Student Sustainability Workshop
Sustainable Works is ready to launch the Student Sustainability Workshop at your college or university!

We take pride in our ability to offer a turn-key program that requires limited involvement from busy faculty members and student organizers while benefiting campus sustainability and educational goals by:

  • Providing students with opportunities to become involved and active on campus
  • Providing leadership opportunities and training to student Workshop Leaders
  • Providing students (especially Workshop Leaders) with a valuable extra-curricular experience that greatly enhances their professional resumes, transfer and scholarship applications
  • Providing faculty with an easy option for introducing an environmental education and action component into their existing curriculum
  • Promoting retention by enhancing students' overall college experience
  • Providing international and ESL students with a unique opportunity to improve English speaking and writing skills
  • Encouraging students to get involved in community service with organizations or student groups they might not otherwise have known about
  • Encouraging students' own environmental, social and fiscal responsibility
  • Promoting students' awareness and involvement in other environmental programs, initiatives and events already in existence at the college
  • Creating partnerships and collaborations with student groups, faculty, administration and facilities to enhance and promote the culture of sustainability on campus

The key to the success of the Student Sustainability Workshop at your school is having a committed and dedicated Student Program Coordinator to oversee the workshops, train student leaders, outreach to faculty and student groups and become a trusted and continuous presence on campus.

With the help of our skilled Student Program Coordinators, implementing the Sustainable Works Student Program on your campus is simple and follows this 6-step process:

  1. Student Program Coordinator (SPC) outreaches to faculty, staff and student groups to introduce them to the program and invite them to participate
  2. SPC gives brief, in-class presentations in interested faculty members' classes to recruit student participants
  3. SPC leads the series of Workshop meetings during the first semester. During subsequent semesters, the SPC trains and supervises the Student Workshop Leader recruited from the past program graduates
  4. Throughout the program the SPC tracks attendance, participation and resource-use reduction
  5. At the conclusion of the program the SPC collects all program requirements and awards participants with their certificates of completion
  6. Shortly after the program concludes, the SPC generates a final report to share with participating faculty members and other program stakeholders. Faculty members are also given a list of their students who completed the program successfully.

We look forward to working with you and to the opportunities that will arise from promoting sustainable practices to your student population. Please contact us so that we can set up a meeting to discuss bringing the Student Sustainability Workshops to your campus. (310) 458-8716 x 1.
